Boundary breaks with neighbours

All landowners (members and non-members) must prepare fire breaks on his or her side of the common boundary with the adjoining land.   A recommended 10-15 m fire break on each side of the boundary, however, width will be dependent on fuel loads and risk.

Member’s duties when preparing fire breaks

🔥Obtain authorization from the LRFPA to burn—apply for an online pernit (no permit, means no burning)

🔥Generally burning prohibitions are in place between the 15 May to 31st October – consult with LRFPA at all times to ensure you are unsure.

🔥No burning of any nature on Saturdays, Sundays and Public Holidays, unless otherwise authorized by the LRFPA

🔥No burning of fire breaks if LRFPA or Ftheir appointed agent (FireHawk) have said NO to any burning.

Pre-burning procedures –Verify the fire danger index for the day and the forecast for the next 24 hours.   One must check the local FDI – PLEASE CONTACT FireHawk or LRFPA if you are not sure—members will be notified on a regular basis of the FDI conditions.

Post-burning procedures:

Mopping up: The entire fire line must be adequately contained.   All smoldering embers must be extinguished with water.

A minimum 1.5 m fully extinguished fire line must be created along the entire perimeter of the burn.

District and regional roads:

To burn safely along side a district or regional road the following are required:

Equipment & Trained Staff

A member on whose land a veldfire may start or burn or from whose land it may spread must have such equipment, protective clothing and trained personnel for extinguishing fires ensure that in his or her absence responsible persons are
